It’s time to think about comforting foods.
When the weather starts to cool off, I am willing to consider using the stove more often. I try to avoid using it much in the summer. It tends to heat the kitchen and house more than we’d like. Now, that fall is here, I am ready to pull out cozy, comfort food recipes. These recipes are baked in the oven. Comfort food recipes bring to mind sheet pan meals, comforting casseroles and the like.

We love a good lasagna. I usually don’t use a recipe. Lasagna-making is basically layering meat sauce, cheese mixture, noodles and shredded cheese. Follow a recipe a few times to learn. Then you’ll discover that a recipe is not really necessary once you’ve mastered the method. I have provided one if you would like. Here is a wonderful, classic LASAGNA recipe to get you started. (Also, find the recipe in my most popular cookbook, From Katie’s Kitchen, Vol. One.)
My favorite pans to use for baking, sheet meals, and most casseroles are made in beautiful Amish Country, Ohio. They are produced by Quality Plastics LLC. The pan I used in this video serves a tableful of lasagna lovers. The pan is the Blue Jay stainless steel pan. It measures 13″W x 18″L x 1.5″D, the size of a standard restaurant Half Sheet pan.

Why choose stainless steel pans?
- Toxic-free
- Stainless steel pans from Quality Plastics in Fredericksburg, Ohio, are manufactured with thick gauge steel and nothing else. Don’t worry about toxins! Stainless steel baking pans are chemical-free so nothing leaches into food.
- Non-reactive
- Stainless steel pans do not hold flavors so your Mint Brownies won’t taste like last night’s garlic bread.
- Durable
- Stainless steel pans and cookware will last for generations. The material is not as soft as aluminum and will not rust. How many aluminum pans have we tossed because they rusted or bent out-of-shape?
- Heat-distribution
- Stainless steel pans offer even heat-distribution so no hot spots when baking. A light, airy sheet cake is the reward of an even baking surface.
- Easy Clean-up
- Stainless steel pans are dishwasher-safe.
- For soaked on foods, simply soak in soapy water before cleaning with a soft scrubbie sponge like this one.
- To polish stainless steel, use a soft scrubbie and product designed for stainless steel cleaning like Bar Keeper’s Friend.

Benefits of Quality Plastics Stainless Steel pans
- Three sizes are available from Quality Plastics — Blue Jay (13″ x 18″ x 1.5″ half sheet), Chickadee (10″ x 15″ x 1 3/8″ jelly roll), Wren (9″ x 12.5″ x 1.5″ almost quarter sheet).
- Lids are made of highest-quality BPA-free plastic, extremely durable and lock tightly on the pans.
- Both pans and lids are dishwasher-safe. I have washed the lids on the top rack of the dishwasher for a year with no warping or damage.
- The lids are very deep with plenty of room to cover an iced cake. They come in a variety of colors.
- Use the pans and lids for serving. The pans and lids are beautiful enough that you can serve from them confidently. Use the upside-down lids to hold ice. Then place the stainless pans atop the lids. This keeps trays of food cold while serving. This is great for deli trays, fruit and vegetable trays, cold desserts, and more.

Most important aspect
Better than all of the practical cooking benefits, to me, is the relational aspect. The folks who own and operate this rural Ohio company are what we country folks always call, “good people.” They are trusted in the community, honest in their dealings and attentive in their craftsmanship. They aspire to work hard, produce the highest quality products available and serve their customers well.
I’ve been to the facilities and watched the manufacturing processes in action. The pans are seamlessly stamped. A gentleman demonstrated the sturdiness of the lids by placing one on the floor and jumping on it. Very impressive!

It’s time to pull out the baking sheets. Whether you are making cookies, bars, casseroles or sheet pan meals, consider my favorite pans by Quality Plastics of Ohio.
