The salty and sweet combination of cola, sugar and ham are just right. Recently, I created a lower-carb version of the classic Cola Ham that tastes just as great and has no artificial sweetener aftertaste.
Welcome to my kitchen and let’s bake a Cola Ham with fewer carbs than the original recipe.
Equipment You’ll Need
- roasting pan with lid, or deep-sided pan like a 9 x 13
- aluminum foil if pan has no lid
- measuring spoons (I use these measuring scoops all the time!)
- medium saucepan
- whisk for sauce
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 9-10 pound pre-cooked, spiral-sliced, bone-in ham, preferably with no existing glaze
- 1 cup brown sugar substitute (I use this one from Truvia brand.)
- 2 Tablespoons Dijon Mustard
- 1 can Olipop Cola (or try Cherry Cola or Doctor Goodwin)
**A note about OliPop. You may not be familiar or this product may not be in your area. I discovered it last year and fell hard for the line of healthy sodas. They are full of fiber and prebiotics. (Don’t drink more than one a day because they do “work,” if you know what I mean.) They taste great! I have many favorites. You may find these both in the refrigerated and shelf sections of the store. Check the can to see whether the product needs to be refrigerated.

- Pour half of sauce mixture over ham. Cover with lid or foil.

- Remove from oven. Pour remaining sauce over ham. Return to oven, covered. Bake for 30 more minutes.
- Remove from oven. Using measuring scoop, or spoon, baste ham. Return to oven and bake, uncovered, 20 minutes.
Easter is near and many folks are thinking about an Easter Menu.
In addition to this Cola Ham, may I suggest a few sides or salads? Try these anytime but these recipes like to shine in springtime.
