Aprons: The Ladies’ Consistent Home Garment

Introduction to our Clothing Line

Few, if any, ladies’ garments have stood the test of time more than the apron. Could it be that the apron rivals even the most expensive modern piece of kitchen equipment as the number one time-honored and faithful kitchen friend? The verdict is out but we think we know the result. 🙂

While one could argue that the style of ladies’ aprons has evolved throughout history, no argument can stand against the importance and usefulness of an apron to the homemaker. She wears an apron when baking the family’s favorite Peanut Lover’s Peanut Butter Cake or when cleaning out the chicken coop and collecting eggs. She wraps her laundry apron full of high-quality pins about the waist to hang fresh laundry on the line to dry. The Peacefully Productive Homemaker has a heavier garden apron which she knows, when gathered at its corners, will hold all those surprise zucchini squash that weren’t there yesterday. She even has her granny’s special never-to-be-worn apron which serves as a conversation piece and a part of her heritage. Instinctively, the Peacefully Productive Homemaker knows which apron to grab from her apron collection which hangs from the antique hooks on the back of the old pantry door.

What a joy to reach for the right one for the job! But..sometimes, somedays, that one apron serves *all* the purposes and it is likely the most-loved of all.

Heritage Ways Clothing Line, the Creator

Mrs. Katie from Heritage Ways is a Mama to six children (plus two in heaven) and a Marmee to three precious grandchildren and has enjoyed homemaking for over 30 years of marriage. She first donned an apron around the age of five as she began her cooking and baking career by her Mama’s side.

Heritage Ways clothing and aprons are based upon Mrs. Katie’s and Little Miss Homemaker’s own styles of fashion, if you will. These ladies prefer old-fashioned designs as well as materials. Think homespun, homemade and appreciation for heritage. This clothing line is actually the result of many, many folks throughout the nation expressing an interest in a Heritage Ways clothing line. As the family traveled the nation to build community, they unknowingly built an interest in the ladies’ skirts, dresses, aprons and more.

Mrs. Katie sews the entire clothing line herself using her grandmother’s or her mother’s old Singer machines. Each clothing piece is handled with love, care, attention to detail and in a peaceful environment surrounded by prayerful thoughts and gentle gospel hymns (or, on occasion, some Louie Armstrong jazz.) As she cuts, pins, sews and irons, Mrs. Katie is thoughtfully praying for the one who will wear and use each item. Her prayer is that each homemaker will be blessed and not burdened by life. She sends out her products packaged with hope and love.

Mrs. Katie’s first home love is cooking but she has very much enjoyed creating these wonderful pieces for you ladies. Please remember that she sews with love and not perfection. Just like in people, if you look closely enough, you’ll find flaws, but grace, as in everything, goes a long way.

TOWN DAY APRON, a HERITAGE WAYS SIGNATURE ITEM

Mrs. Katie’s favorite apron for around-the-house, non-cooking chores is the Town Day Apron as she not only finds it useful at home but wears it to town quite often. The deep pockets are handy to contain random items she finds around the house such as pennies, Legos and ponytail holders, as well as keys and cell phone when in town. The comfortably-loose full-coverage hides a multitude of ‘sins’ like stained clothes and that unflattering shirt or pants. The fully-lined option of Town Day apron is what makes this garment remain more durable over time as well as more substantial than single-layered aprons. By nature of the lining, this design could be a tad warmer to wear than the unlined Town Day version but Mrs. Katie enjoys wearing the lined version year-round in both Tennessee’s and Ohio’s climates. The unlined option is still made using 100% cotton but tighter woven fabric which tends to hold up better in warm water washes.
