Sweet Poppy Seed Bread
A tender, moist quick bread with a sweet orange glaze can be served for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea
Ingredients
Bread Batter
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons salt
- 3 eggs
- 1½ cups milk
- 1 cup + 2 tablespoons oil
- 1½ tablespoons poppy seeds
- 1½ teaspoons each vanilla extract, butter flavoring, almond flavoring
Orange Glaze
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup orange juice
- ½ teaspoon each vanilla, butter, almond extracts/flavors
Instructions
Bread Batter
- Beat dry ingredients. Add other ingredients. Mix well.
- Bake in two greased loaf pans 350F 55 minutes, or until cake tester returns clean.
- Using toothpick or thin knife, poke holes in bread loaves to absorb glaze.
Orange Glaze
- Combine all ingredients. Stir well to dissolve sugar.
- Pour glaze over bread either while in pan or after removing from pan while hot. I prefer to remove from pan before glazing.
