This casserole is a comforting and reliable recipe of shredded potatoes and cheese sauce. It is very often served in our home for brunches (especially  Christmas) and  everyday suppers. This ever popular dish can be made with homemade “cream of” soups and cooked, shredded potatoes, if you desire.

Classic Hashbrown Casserole

A comforting blend of shredded potatoes and cheese sauce, Hashbrown Casserole has been a classic on supper tables since the 1970s. The southern-based restaurant chain, Cracker Barrel, serves this casserole to millions of customers yearly.

Ingredients
  

  • 30 oz. shredded potatoes
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 16 oz. sour cream
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion OR 1/2 tsp. Onion powder if you do not prefer real onion
  • 2 cans cream of soups
  • 2 cups shredded cheese

Instructions
 

  • Mix well and place in a 9 x 13 sprayed, baking dish
  • Optional: you may sprinkle with shredded cheese and/or crushed cheese crackers
  • Bake 350° for 30-40 minutes, or until brown and bubbly
