Sweet Poppy Seed Bread

A tender, moist sweet bread with an orange glaze is tasty for breakfast, lunch or snack with afternoon tea.

Sweet Poppy Seed Bread

A tender, moist quick bread with a sweet orange glaze can be served for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea

Ingredients Method Video

Ingredients
  

Bread Batter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1½ tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1½ teaspoons each vanilla extract, butter flavoring, almond flavoring
Orange Glaze
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon each vanilla, butter, almond extracts/flavors

Method
 

Bread Batter
  1. Beat dry ingredients. Add other ingredients. Mix well.
  2. Bake in two greased loaf pans 350F 55 minutes, or until cake tester returns clean.
  3. Using toothpick or thin knife, poke holes in bread loaves to absorb glaze.
Orange Glaze
  1. Combine all ingredients. Stir well to dissolve sugar.
  2. Pour glaze over bread either while in pan or after removing from pan while hot. I prefer to remove from pan before glazing.
