Homemade Laundry Detergent

Gather a few items from the thrift store, a few ingredients from a local grocer or buy online, if that’s how you rock and roll.

Save lots of money by making your own laundry detergent. We made a video and included the recipe and method in comments below video.

  1. It’s not detergent. Contains only soap as a surfactant, and two kinds of water softeners. Recipe dates from the 1800’s…primitive by today’s standards.

You don’t need both borax and washing soda. Both are water softeners. Baking soda would be fine. Actually contains more carbonate per pound than washing soda, so has higher capacity to soften water. Is also far better than borax in that respect.

Learn some chemistry, and don’t just rely on what’s hype printed on packages and clueless housewife videos and blogs.
